Driving to Vietnam

There are many routes to China through Lang Son, Mong Cai & Lao Cai, to Cambodia through Moc Bai and Xaxia and to Laos via Lao Bao, Na Meo, or Tay Trang.

There is a regular bus service from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, operated by Saigon Passenger Transport (tel: (08) 3920 3623;www.saigonbus.com.vn). There are the bus services from Vientiane, Laos, Hanoi and Savannakhet. Laos to Hue tickets must be purchased directly from the bus station, and the journey is not the most comfortable of rides. There are no buses from China that cross into Vietnam - passengers must change buses at the border.


To Vietnam by boat

The main international destination in Vietnam with a regular ferry service is Chau Doc in the Mekong Delta. There are daily high-speed ferries from Phnom Penh along the Mekong River that take 4.5 to 5 hours. You can then get trains to Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

Once arriving in Vietnam, there are regular trains to Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

River routes:

Walking along the mighty Mekong River from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc is a very special and exciting way to get there.
